From protocols to pandemics, EMS is in a time of change. In addition to major paradigm shifts in clinical care, the current pandemic has changed every part of a call from start to finish. How do individuals adapt to this change? How do organizations change? The answer transcends policies and procedures. Change is challenging in public safety where tradition rules. Interestingly, change is dependent on things that have driven us throughout the history of EMS, namely dedication and resilience. This presentation will discuss several of the biggest changes throughout the history of EMS, the clinical implications of those changes, and how the spirit of EMS survives and thrives in times of change.
