Background
Respirators are a type of personal protective equipment (PPE). A filtering facepiece respirator (FFR) is a device that is a disposable half-facepiece non-powered air-purifying particulate respirator intended for use to cover the nose and mouth of the wearer to help reduce wearer exposure to pathogenic biological airborne particulates.
The FDA has issued several policies and EUAs to help mitigate FFR shortages. These actions help assure health care personnel on the front lines have the necessary supplies of personal protective equipment to meet the demand.
